The traditional banana varieties are tall growing and prone to wind damage, while their multiplication through suckers results in high incidences of pest and diseases, low productivity and extended harvesting season. The low productivity and crop losses result in meagre returns. India Rural Association has availed a loan under the Umbrella Programme for Natural Resource Management for on lending to needy farmers. This coupled with the introduction of tissue culture banana and improved modern agricultural practices provided a stable and sustainable livelihood to 200 farmers.
