This is the story of Lavanya from Karvanga who achieved success in Natural farming moving away from Chemical Farming. Lavnya is now earming more than a lakh per acre from the Naturally grown crops. Her Family also started processing chillies to powder and which is giving more profits.

I originally hail from Achampeta mandal of Ursurangapur. My husband is a farmer and he had 30 acres of land which yields cotton, groundnut and castor. Mahabubnagar district is a drought prone area and many farmers have given up hope on agriculture. Investments on their crops used to exceed than the income earned. Even then we didn't lose faith in agriculture and continued to invest lots of money and time in agriculture and this situation continued for years which left us severe debts for which we had to sell our 10 acres of land. At these tough times we had conflicts in our joint family which lead to divide the ancestral assets. My husband was given 10 acres while his brother got another 10 acres. In these circumstances we feared that doing agriculture in the remaining land will lead us to some more debts. We didn't knew what to do. All we know was agriculture. In these tough times, Tekalapally Agriculture Officer Hussain Babu and Garama Bharathi Convenor Stambadri Reddy introduced to us Zero Budget Natural farming which helped us to change our way of farming techniques. I was able to understand the methods of Natural farming and stopped using pesticides.

As a part of natural farming, we bought a cow to prepare some Natural pesticides. We collected the urine and dung of the cow which was mixed with rotten eggs to prepare a spray mixture. We had sprayed the entire crop. By using the urine and dung of one cow we can prepare organic pesticide which can be sprayed in 30 acres of land.

By using chemical pesticides in 1 acre of cotton farm we incurred Rs.25000 expenditure while in the case of Natual farming we spend much less amount per acre. Very soon we realised this is very profit yielding. As a part of main crop, we also sowed Coriander, Fenugreek, Mustard and for which we earned 1lakh per year. This money was very helpful in educating our children. By using non BT cotton seeds we could produce large quantity of crop. In the drought period, others could hardly produce 2 quintals and in the same time we produced 10 quintals by using natural farming. By starting our farming career with 10 acres of land we could extend it to 30 acres. Many farmers and Telangana's irrigation minister Mr. Pocham Srinivas has also visited our farm. After introducing organic farming techniques to our traditional farming we could change our lives and earn maximum profits in a small land.I was discouraged by many while I decided to start natural farming but now, everyone calls me an ideal farmer.

We observe a lot of demand in Naturally grown rice, chilly and cotton which is produced with the methods of organic farming. By adding a few marketing techniques to organic farming we can yield many more profits.
